Irish Coast Guard Member Liam Kelly explaining the use of lifejackets while on the water to Students from Donacarney Boys School witht he Help of Colum Watts in full Coast Guard gear..Photo: Newsfile/Fran Caffrey..The summer is here and the Drogheda Coast Guard Unit are back visiting the local Primary Schools for their Annual Water Safety Talk..This has been a very successful campaign over the last four years; we have educated thousands of children in all aspects of Water Safety form the Louth and Meath Areas..We introduce the children to the basic dangers that they are likely to encounter when visiting the seaside, lakes and rivers. We also teach them the Safe Swimming Guide..We demonstrate the wearing of Lifejackets and Buoyancy Aids, how to get help if the find someone in trouble in the water, at the seaside or near cliffs..We also demonstrate the equipment that the Coast Guard wear and use in different areas of operations..The children are then brought into the schoolyard where we show them one of our Coast Guard Boats and all Life Saving Equipment on board..Last year we visited thirty schools reaching approx. three thousand children..We wish everyone a warm and happy summer..Enjoy our local waterways and coast, always read signs, stay alert and beware of any dangers..If you see any one in difficulty in our local Rivers, Lakes or along our Coast, Call 112 or 999 and ask for the Coast Guard...Dermot Mc Connoran .Area Officer .Drogheda Coast Guard...
